in private vehicles as well.
Persons who leave their vehicles outside built-up areas and who are present on the carriageway or the hard shoulder are required to wear a high-visibility vest in line with Euro 471. This regulation has applied in Italy since 1 April 2004 and in Spain since 24 July 2004. Drivers of mopeds and motorcycles are exempt.
High-visibility vest requirements are also in place in many European countries (in Germany from July 2014).
For your personal safety and to avoid incurring fines (in Italy at least EUR 33.60 — in Spain up to EUR 91), at least one high-visibility vest should be readily available at all times on each trip and put on in appropriate situations (e.g. breakdown or accident) before getting out of the vehicle.
