In the event of fire, it should not spread inside buildings. The fire-safety regulations therefore call for fire protection barriers. They include fire doors, gates and flaps, which are normally closed. To ensure that these doors can always be opened on busy passageways, the self-closing mechanism must be triggered automatically in the event of a fire. However, the door must not close when there are people or objects in the closing area. The legislation therefore requires monitoring with appropriate safety devices. The technical challenge is to ignore potential smoke development whilst at the same time reliably detecting objects in the smoke. These certified light barriers can perform this function.
