Control and configure beyond plug and play
Today, growing businesses need to be able to rely on their network to keep their business running.
Companies are using more applications and are increasingly generating more data traffic in their network infrastructure, e.g. via VoIP phones and IP cameras. Accordingly, the network must distinguish between voice and video traffic and other data and prioritize them as needed. At the same time, however, companies do not necessarily bring in additional resources or training to handle complex managed switches.
The NETGEAR ProSafe® Plus Series switches address this growing need by providing basic networking features that can help optimize the performance of enterprise networks. In addition to a plug-and-play Gigabit network connection, these switches also provide key network features such as VLAN, QoS, IGMP snooping, link aggregation (LAG), rate limiting, and traffic monitoring. NETGEAR ProSafe® Web Managed (Plus) switches provide value over unmanaged switches for businesses looking to add intelligent control to their network.
Prioritize voice/video traffic
These Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) switches can provide the ability to set up and configure QoS, detect different types of network traffic, and prioritize latency-affected traffic such as voice and video. This improves the delivery quality of relevant applications such as VoIP, multimedia broadcasting and video conferencing.
Create multiple network groups
The Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) switches can divide large networks into smaller, more manageable groups, allowing resources to be allocated to individual or multiple groups instead of having to make all resources available to the entire network. This feature improves overall network performance, adds security to network traffic, and makes better use of network resources.
Troubleshooting cable problems
All Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) switches have a cable diagnostic capability that allows users to easily determine the health of the network cables they are using. If there are problems with cables, this feature can be used to identify the source of the problem, which significantly speeds up the resolution of connection problems, potentially saving technicians hours of troubleshooting.
IGMP snooping for optimized delivery of multimedia traffic
Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) switches monitor IGMP communication between hosts and routers, allowing them to map exactly which connections require which IP multicast streams. Therefore, Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) switches can route multicast traffic exactly to the links that requested that traffic, while suppressing it for connections that do not contain a multicast listener. Ultimately, IMGP snooping allows you to optimize layer 2 multicast performance and is especially useful for bandwidth-demanding IP multicast applications such as IPTV.
