With a reflex light barrier, the transmitter and receiver are housed in a single enclosure. A focused pulsed light beam is emitted via a polarising filter on to a remote reflector. The reflected light beam returns to the sensor, where it passes a second polarising filter before reaching the receiver. If an object interrupts the light beam, the sensor registers the reduced light intensity and activates the output.
