Four high-quality bass drivers, WS 17 E 4 Ohm, with paper membrane optimised for free-air use have been chosen for the NoBox 170 kit. They also provide a clean deep bass thanks to the lack of a cabinet. In addition, thanks to the dipole principle, the drivers generate considerably fewer standing waves, which means the bass tends to fade more quickly, so it can never become fuzzy and does not drone. On top of this, there is the WS 13 E 8 Ohm mid-range driver that also features a paper membrane and a high standard of quality, making it ideal for free air use. To maintain the same standard in terms of look and sound (and also price) paper membranes have also been used for the tweeter. The TW 6 NG 8 Ohm provides a fitting finish with clearly defined high range to ensure the sound produced by the NoBox 170 is a harmonious whole. As the tweeter is the only driver that is enclosed at the rear, a second driver is mounted back-to-back to emulate the dipole principle right through to the high range. The level can be lowered and even switched off via a potentiometer. In this way, the tonal balance and the depth of the stage can easily be adapted to suit the spatial environment and personal preferences. The NoBox 170 should always be positioned at a sufficient distance from the rear wall to allow the considerable deep bass to develop and so as not to restrict the depth of the stage layout.
