They support a bandwidth of up to 48 Gbit/s and a resolution of up to 10K.
Due to the high bandwidth, higher colour depths and refresh rates can now also be achieved.
For example, 8K images can be reproduced in the 4:4:4 colour space at 12-bit colour depth (uncompressed).
With compressed (DSC 1.2), 10K can also be transmitted in the 4:4:4 colour space at 16-bit colour depth.
Higher refresh rates and bandwidths are becoming increasingly important in 3D, VR applications and video games.
With the enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), object-based audio formats can now also be sent via the HDMI cable.
The permissible bandwidth for the enhanced Audio Return Channel has been increased from 1 Mbit/s to 37 Mbit/s.
