When dry, the swelling disks allow air and gas to escape.

Chemical additives in the heating water can reduce the service life of the swelling disks.
However, the valve insert (incl.
seal and swelling disks) can be replaced in this case thanks to an automatic non-return mechanism built into the deaerator.
